Apple has released the news to public for the Apple Iphone 14 and their model first look in the september event. Now it is available in the apple stores and other retails for pre-order. The only pending will be the Iphone 14 plus model that will be in october. So let us look into the details of the Iphone 14 models and their features. Also the difference and improvements from the previous models.

Apple has announced 3 models of iphone 14, the Iphone 14 plus, Iphone 14 pro and Iphone 14  Pro max. Let us see what is in common and difference between these models.

Now let us look into those first look features which are introduced new in this release. There is quite a lot of additions to this new model which has differentiated from older models

Always-on Display

Always-On display is a new feature that got introduced now. This feature is there in the market for quite long time with other vendors but this is first time to Apple. So in this feature it helps to dim the display in the lock screen instead of going into dark mode. This helps to display the time,widgets and wallpaper of your choice.  This can be customized as per your need. Looks like a cool feature and this can be enabled or disabled based upon your wish.

It runs the display in 1 Hz so that there is no much of the power is wasted in this mode. It looks to be made intelligent by making it go dark in so many ways when you do not need it. As per the Apple Always-on Support  it can be made into complete dark in these conditions

• Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
• Sleep Focus is on
• Low Power Mode is on
• Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
• You’re using Continuity Camera
• You haven’t used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
• Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again).

You can also disable it form the settings menu. So it is based on your wish. Good to see this feature.

Dynamic Island – Apple Iphone 14 First look

Dynamic Island is the cool new feature that is introduced in this. So this is also the Iphone 14 first look feature. This looked to solve the iphone notch issue. Now they have intelligently used this notch space with this new feature. So it looks good. It helps to show the alerts and current activity in progress like the playing music, timer, airdrop connection, maps direction. The display changes the size and shape accordingly to the pill shaped display.

There are lot of notification that gets into this dynamic island. This will be a nice to have option in older phones also if possible with a software upgrade. So let us see if Apple can do this for the older versions. The list of activities that gets into this are as below.

So this is a very cool feature and looks to be fine. This is like a theme or some kind of display magic. Every one will like this feature.

Emergency SOS via Satellite

Emergency SOS via Satellite is really a very good option, this looks to be a pro stuff. Till now the only option for heavy satellite phones and other GPS devices. This looks to be new innovation from Apple after a very long time. This is the first step in simplifying the satellite communication to normal public users. This feature will be more helpful for mountain climbers and people working or got lost in remote locations where there is no cellular communications.

This helps to connect to the emergency services via text that should be enough to get help. The only thing is that the conditions under which you are in and the situation at that time. It takes around 15 seconds and over a minute to send a message using this option and it needs to be clear conditions and not much covered under the trees and any obstructions.  The connection time to the satellite again is impacted by the surroundings, the length of the message and status. The availability of the satellite is also important. This is not a fool proof solution but still can be handy in an extreme situation.

For this feature you need to have Iphone 14 model along with IOS 16. This is available as of now in US region and Canada. It might not work in places above 62 degree Latitude and northern parts of Canada and Alaska as per the Apple website for Satellite communications.

Crash detection – First look

Crash detection is also one of the Iphone 14 first look feature. This is more or less like the fall detection but it helps for the car drivers. This helps in the event of severe car crashes., it will alert and automatically Initial an emergency phone call after 20 seconds unless you cancel it. This will send the message to emergency services and updates the emergency contacts.  This feature has been tested under so many though standards to make sure this is a life saver. This has been added to the Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch 8 Series.

As we could see there are various new features released as first look in this version. The best feature I could see is Crash detection and Satellite SOS is the new innovation that has been brought in this release. Finally we could see some good changes happening in the innovation area. Let us have a check once we get all the models in hand and use it for some more time. This will be also a good companion for the Apple Watch 8, SE & Ultra.  When you use it along with the AirPods Pro  Gen 1 or AirPods Pro Gen 2 it will give an amazing experience. So expecting it to be complete package.
